Modèle de pelures d'orange / Orange Peel Design - 3

Projet en cours / Work in progress

The top is done, machine appliqué was faster than anticipated.  I'm only beginning to master this appliqué stitch with my machine, my stitches are not always spaced equally.  But I ADORE it.  And it's not even quilted yet.

Orange Peel Quilt-A-Long

Orange Peel Quilt-A-Long
It,s the first time I'm participating in a Quilt-A-Long.  For me, it's a coincidence that its subject was the same as my current project.  I decided to join, to see.  The website is really good, showing diffrent techniques to achieve that design.

The "Quilt-A-Long" force me to priorize that project to meet the deadline.  The quilting won't be done at all but the top is completed.  And there is a category for people like me !

When I was about to comple appliquéing, I suddenly saw suspicious brown spots.  Facing all dangers, I smelt them.  I was chocolate milk spots (this is me).  I searched on my sewing table, on the floor, on my cutting table, I couldn't find any.  Mystery.  Luckily, it washes very well.

I did a sample on a white background fabric.  My background fabric is a mix of lime green and white.  I don't know yet what motif I will do in the peels, I'll choose as I'll go.
  • invisible thread to outline orange peels
  • white thread for background quilting
  • light lime green thread to quilt orange peels
  • same light lime green thread for all bobbins threads
stitch by stitch

  1. BEAUTIFUL! <3 I love the colors you chose. I also love how the background colors split for each peel. Orange peels are so wonderful, aren't they? :)

    1. Thank you. I love that pointy circled shape. I'm already planning some "drop" shapes all in red and gold tones for next year. I want to congrats you on all the tutorial and different techniques to use to make orange peels. It really gave us a lot of choices. And being lazy as someone else has done all the research work for us.

    1. Thank you. Hopefully, it was only chocolate powder. Brown could be so many unsmellable things.

    1. Thanks for commenting. For the quilting part, I'll start wit the outlining process, than the background, so I could meditate the main quilting during that time.

  7. Such a lovely quilt, your colours are beautiful. I will be interested to look at the Quilt Along tips as I have always admired orange peel but I am not great at hand applique - too impatient!

    1. Thank you. This one is raw edge machine applique, I think the fastest way to get it done. And really easy, and also precise.

  10. Love those orange peels! And (I think we've discussed this before), your colour palette really speaks to me. And you definitely made me smile with the mystery brown spot on your finished quilt top! :)

    1. I'm glad you love it. It's true, it looks like some colors you previouly chose for a quilt. I'm not used to work with greens. That light green, I like it. It have been 10 years since I used dark green. The chocolate spot, just to remind me to "care" for what I'm doing, and not be too messy, and not be always in such a hurry... hopefully, it was just chocolate. Thanks for visiting.

    1. Merci.

  16. Lovely quilt - I am totally guilty with food and my sewing - I ruined a dress this way, so I always wash and dry my table before I sew now.

    1. Thank you. You are a no-reply blogger so I cannot reply to you directly. You cannot imagine how many empty (or supposed to be empty) glasses I just forgot to collect around the house, around the computer, the sewing machine. For that spot, I didn't even know where it comes from, this time, everything was clean. Anyway, it was just chocolate !

  17. Your quilt top is so lovely! The colors are so soothing and the orange peel design works so nicely with them -- it all works together to bring a sense of calm. Can't wait to see how it looks when it is all quilted and bound!

    1. Thank you. I ordered "modern" fabric online and give them a try. I should do that more often. I'm really looking forward to quilt it (my batting is on its way).

    1. Thank you. I just bought a new machine and I start FMQ it this afternoon. It's really going softly as fastly, I'm so happy. 9 inch of harp space really makes a difference. Thanks for stopping by.
