Modèle de pelures d'orange / Orange Peel Design

Nouveau projet / New Project

Il me reste ma dernière tante.

In my mom's family, there are four families (including mine).  I already gave a quilt to three out of four families.  I still have my last aunt.

Because I want to have it complete by Christmas, wich is tomorrow, I need to get on the job sooner than later.

My aunt is frequently wearing lime green tops.  So I inspired myself with that color.  I also wanted a more modern look, so I choose my fabrics with that in mind.

By change, I found this photo on the internet.  That is exactly what I was looking for.

I chose all the fabrics online.  I order the Tula Pink's Fox Field in green.  I discard fabrics that have too much minth green in them.  I tried to like them but I can't.  Neutral fabrics of that line have been kept.  I add to this collection fabrics from other collections, including tone on tone and green solids. And snow white.

After saving many designs I saw, I restricted myself on the orange peel design.

  1. Super fabrics. Your sister's family will love it. I like the third option.

    1. Hi. Thanks for your input. Currently, that's my preferred option. So many HST could be time consuming so I thought of doing them bigger, like 6". I bought some times ago a Bloc-Loc ruler for my sister to trim HST easily. She loves it, I'll borrow it from her.

    1. Thank you for your input. I think #3 is winning the race. These colors are my aunt's colors. When I told my boyfriend for whom the quilt was and when he saw the fabrics, he says "without a doubt, it's for your aunt". Hope she like it. I don't think that would be a problem.

  4. I like the third option best... it's complex enough that you won't have to make the quilting too complicated (I like to think about things like that in advance, especially when it's a present with a deadline). And the fabric choices are great too!

    1. Thank you for answering. At first, I thought about simple piecing with elaborate quilting. Looks like it gonna be the opposite. I already done a quilt with a lot (maybe 30) circles. Outlining each of them is not what I call a quick quilting design. And for this one, I will have to do it too. There is no way to escape, good quilting takes time.

    1. Thank you. I feel a little bit bad about copying partly someone else idea but I told her so it's ok.

  6. I love your fabric selection. And although I really like option #3, I love the simplicity and all the negative space of option #1. :-)

  10. You use Visio, the Microsoft office flow chart tool to do quilt designs?! Explain!

    1. About Visio. I'm using that at work for more than 10 years now. I have it on my computer at home. It really not an EQ alike. You do everything by hand (or I should say by mouse). I juste scale my page to the size I want by quilt to be and I design the bloc in the desired size. I mainly use square and rectangle. And I design a orange peel with the arc tool. I also sometime use the software to calculate the yardage. I used it as a graph sheet. I scale the page to 40" to X yards. I enlarge my blocs to add seams allowance and then I copy/paste them the number of times I need them. I always want to try EQ but for now, I still don't need it.

    1. Thank you. My aunt is responsible for the color selection: she love lime green, have gray hair and blue eyes (I thought about the lime green but not about the two other concepts.... I'm more brilliant than I thought).

    1. Thank you. So funny, almost everybody prefer #3. So it will be (I'm still a little bit hesitating, but that's always the case before beginning a new project).

    1. It will the third design. But I put only greys and whites on the background. I saw the quilt from "Never Just Jennifer" and she said that with too many colors blend together, you loose the Orange Peel design. So I order more grey fabrics and I see what it looks like. Thanks for stopping by and giving your opinion.
